COVID-19 Response

Importance of disinfecting your Area Rugs during pandemic!

As you already know, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has seriously impacted the lives of people in this country and all over the world. We hope that everyone is safe and healthy during this time.

Now more than ever, it is important that your home or workspace is as clean as possible to reduce the spread of viruses and infection. Bagdad Oriental Rugs is able to address this need by providing decontamination and disinfection services for area rugs.

All rugs go through our unique High Temperature Drying Room after being sanitized and washed for an extended period of time to make sure your rug colors are not mixing while drying and also kills any remaining virus or bacteria!

Why do you need a clean rug?

With everything going on in your world right now, it can be easy to forget how vital a rug can be to a room. However, your rug may contain harmful bacteria, germs, and microorganisms without you realizing it. Since Coronavirus is a heavy virus, it lands on the ground quickly and can be transmitted to the next person without a direct touch!

While regular vacuuming can help, this is not in any shape or form enough to completely sanitize your rug. With that in mind, we offer a variety of methods for disinfecting your area rugs.

How long can Coronavirus survive on rugs and carpets?

The coronavirus and similar viruses can be distributed through sneezing, coughing, talking and physical contact. The infectious lifespan of these illnesses, including the coronavirus, depends on humidity, temperature and the porosity of the surface hosting the virus.

In general, dry, cold environments extend the lifespan of viruses. Viruses such as COVID-19 can also remain infectious for about twice as long on non-porous surfaces than porous surfaces. Because carpets and upholstery are considered porous surfaces — just like clothing, wood, and similar materials — they’re less hospitable to COVID-19 than non-porous ones.

Although it’s not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 can remain active on surfaces, studies suggest that the coronavirus can survive on a surface for anywhere from 2 hours to a few days.

Which rug cleaning method is best for you?

The answer depends on the type of rug you have, its age, and a number of other factors. If possible, we prefer high temperature cleaning, as this is the best way to kill bacteria.

In order to figure out whether your rug needs hand washing, machine washing, or a combination of both, we’ll need to see the piece in person. Our areas of expertise include Oriental rug cleaning, Persian rug cleaning, antique rug cleaning, and more. Contact us to schedule a consultation.
